Birding

Birding in Grande Riviere is another experience that serves as a timeless reminder of the natural beauty and diversity that our twin-island Republic has to offer.

Among the diverse species of birds found here is the Trinidad Piping-guan or Pawi. Endemic to the heavily-forested communities along Trinidad’s northeastern coast, it is a coveted sighting for avid birders. These sizeable turkey-like birds are classified as endangered, though in recent years, their numbers have been increasing, thanks to conservation efforts.  They are known to frequent the nearby nutmeg, cocoa and fruit estates for feeding.

Hiking

For the hiking enthusiast, the real beauty and splendour of the islands are to be found off the beaten path. The forests and parks in the northeast of Trinidad offer exciting opportunities for hiking expeditions that explore the wonders of the rainforest, with caves, waterfalls, sulphur springs, rivers and streams, and trees that are hundreds of years old.

Whether for health, sport or leisure, let HADCO Experiences take you on a walk with nature.

Turtle-Watching

Grande Riviere is celebrated worldwide for having the highest density of nesting Leatherback turtles during the period of March to August, annually

Turtle-watching is an intimate and picturesque experience, set against the backdrop of dark velvet skies and the occasional crash of tumbling waves from the majestic Caribbean Sea. Our turtle-watching tours capture the interests of beginners, as well as more seasoned visitors, and invite you to experience this timeless tradition. Be sure to dress warmly as the temperatures drop later into the night.

Cocoa Tour

Our cocoa tours provide guests with a warm rich overview of the processes that are involved in the manufacturing of chocolate and other decadent goods. It is also an opportunity to learn more about the island’s folk traditions, particularly that of ‘dancing d’ cocoa’, which has its origins in the region’s colonial history.

Coast Tour

Our coastal tours offer guests the opportunity to become immersed in the culture of the villages along the northeastern seabed of Trinidad. Guests will have the opportunity to sample local cuisine, visit landmarks and learn more about the fascinating histories behind the names of the communities and their residents.
