HADCO Experiences is supporting eco-tourism in Trinidad and Tobago through a robust suite of sustainability initiatives across our properties, including HADCO Experiences at Asa Wright Nature Centre and Mt. Plaisir Estate Hotel. With a commitment to regenerative travel, we integrate environmental stewardship into every aspect of our operations, ensuring that guests enjoy immersive nature experiences while minimizing their ecological footprint.
At HADCO Experiences at Asa Wright Nature Centre, solar panels now supply approximately 80% of the ecolodge’s electricity needs, significantly reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
At Mt. Plaisir Estate Hotel, turtle-friendly red lights replace LED lights from March to September each year to eliminate the disorientation experienced by nesting Leatherbacks from traditional light sources that often lead them astray into roadways and other obstacles causing them to become stranded or injured.
At both properties, walkways are illuminated by motion-sensored, animal-friendly solar lights, designed to protect nocturnal wildlife. Guests are encouraged to refill their bottles at strategically placed water stations offering free drinking water, eliminating the need for single-use plastics which are discouraged at the properties.
Further sustainability efforts include composting organic waste and maintaining a thriving garden that supplies fresh herbs to the restaurants. Environmentally friendly air conditioning units and pressure-controlled taps help conserve energy and water, while wildlife monitoring programs at Asa Wright Nature Centre and Pawi Lodge support biodiversity conservation and scientific research. These initiatives not only enhance the guest experience but also contribute to the preservation of Trinidad and Tobago’s rich natural heritage.
By embedding sustainability into our core operations, we offer more than just accommodation – we provide a model for responsible tourism that nurtures the environment, supports local communities, and inspires meaningful connections with nature.
